Phases one, two and three of the piece I’m currently working on. I’m excellent at starting paintings, proving to myself that I can pull off what I intend on expressing but not actually finishing them until I absolutely have to… Maybe at last minute before a potential buyer is coming to view it or just before I’m submitting for a show.
This, like others is at the point that I love it but, no it’s not finished. I’m determined though. I think I’m going to finish it.
Not only that, but I might actually finish some others. I might just…

Lonely Sailboat, The Painting Is Complete!
So, I’ve called this one finished. The textures and colour contrast have transformed again. I was having a bit of an old impressionist painter’s problem – I would paint with a ton of light and it looked fantastic but when taken away from all that light, I could not see enough detail. So here it is. Now that I can see the colour and texture in a typically lit room, I’m happy.

Impasto Sunflowers, Oil Paintings
Though, some of you have already seen these two paintings, I originally posted them right when I started this blog and therefore they received little to no audience. The first one, Fiery Sunflower, is my personal favourite. Now that I have a wonderful audience which (I’m very grateful) is growing every day, I felt compelled to bring this piece up again.
Fiery Sunflower was the first of my paintings that ever sold as a print and it was my first attempt at palette knife painting. I love this technique. For me, it proves to be a very enjoyable and somewhat liberating experience. I love the way the palette knife allows for thick texture. It seems to bring the image to life somehow, don’t you think?
The second, Cool Sunflower On A Sunny Day, was just to see if I could recreate the same effect using opposite colours, complementing the first. Love the bright colour in this one.

Orange Tulip, Oil Painting (Completed)
So after obsessing over every brush stroke for a while, I decided this is the final version of this painting. As mentioned previously in Work In Progress, Orange Tulip, Oil Painting and Work In Progress, Orange Tulip, Oil Painting (phase 2), this piece was inspired by a photograph from the post, Spring Tulips in early May.

Lost Lagoon’s Swans
This was my fist time capturing swans on camera. I have to say, as they float peacefully like that, they really emanate a sense of grace and beauty.

Work In Progress, Orange Tulip, Oil Painting (phase 2)
I’ve added a lot more paint, maybe lost some of the depth but as it is a work in progress I’m happy with the rich colors and will continue to build light and shade once it is dry. Painting inspired by ‘Orange Tulip’, the photograph.

Work In Progress, Orange Tulip, Oil Painting
Painting inspired by ‘Orange Tulip’, the photograph. I began working on this tulip last night. So far, I’m very happy with how it’s flowing. Looking forward to finishing it.

Lonely Sailboat, The Oil Painting, Almost Complete
Inspired by ‘Lonely Sailboat’, the photograph.
Ok, I’m now getting that happy, content feeling of having completed this painting. I added much more texture to the water, mountains and clouds and completely redesigned the boat. I will let it dry and possibly add more definition to the base of the boat but overall I’m feeling very happy with the result. Check back often for the final copy!
