Undertaking of the Windy Blue Flower

Of all my floral shots, this photo from Stanley Park has been a source of pride for a couple of years. I finally decided to paint it despite a slight feeling of intimidation due to the complexity of detail in the petals. I’m three sessions into it and so glad I took a change on this one. So far I have pleasantly surprised myself. Scroll down for my current progress.

I’ve been experimenting with the fun process of applying complementary colours first, then adding the actual colours over top. This takes a bit of trial and error but allowing a bit of the original layer shine through adds real impact.

There’s more work to be done but I’m enjoying the progress. Here is end of session 3:

End of session two:

And the end of session one:

As you can see, the changes from one session to the next are dramatic. I find this process inspiring as I apply each layer. I hope to retain generous amounts of the original colours shining through in the final stages. Stay tuned as I will post more progress soon.

Bright yellow daisy – photography by EKphotoArt

I feel inspired today. It’s Monday in November and quite brisk outside but the sun is bright just like this wonderfully vibrant yellow daisy. I hope this beautiful flower will help uplift you the way it has managed to uplift me.

Carnation – White on White Photography

This last Mothers’ Day, a good friend and I (since we’re both moms) went out to lunch together as a little treat to ourselves. As luck would have it, in addition to a free meal, we received these lovely carnations for being moms. And since I have been wanting to experiment with white on white photography, this was the perfect flower for an upcoming blog post. I hope you like it.

Red and Yellow Tulips

As promised, I want to share some new photos with you guys. Until now, I mostly shared outdoor nature photography but I have been working on expanding my horizons and have been setting up shoots indoors using various types of lighting. Back in March, in my high anticipation of spring, these lovely tulips caught my eye at a local market. Here are some results from my first white background floral photography shoot.

A Blooming Getaway Part 1

This summer has been full of fun, nature and beauty. As absent as I’ve been from the blog due to all this fun, I’ve managed to compile quite a library of images for you all to enjoy. Here is a little something from a lovely recent getaway to entice you for the next while as fall approaches and I get back into the old routine.

Hot Pink, Wild Rose

Hot hot pink. These wild rose bushes on the way to our local playground, fill my heart with nostalgia every spring time. My grandmother used to love these flowers and I think she even made tea with them. Each time I see them and smell their beautiful scent, I think of her.

Moonlit Dahlia I

Little bit of light play. This is the most stunning dahlia but I thought why not photograph it at night and from below? It’s something different (for me) and kind of refreshing. I like the way this lighting emphasizes the textures of this beautiful flower. Tomorrow, I will post this flower from above so you can see its hundreds of pink and yellow petals lit the same way.
